With the 2008 NCAA football season less than two months away from getting underway in earnest, the BetUS NCAA college football online sports wagering population can get prepared to get their respective 2008 NCAA college football bankrolls started off on the right foot with this Week One NCAA Football Free Picks in the BetUS Sportsbook Futures section of the BetUS Sportsbook.

This NCAA Football Week One Wagering Free Picks features Eastern Illinois, (8-4 SU) hitting the road to take on Central Michigan, (8-6 SU, 7-4-2 ATS, 10-2 O/U) in a battle of two teams that are expecting bigger and better things as they head into the 2008 regular season.

The Eastern Illinois Panthers finished last season ranked nationally after going 8-4 for head coach Bob Spoo and making a third consecutive NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, (FCS), playoff berth.

The Pirates were one of just two Ohio Valley Conference teams to land in the rankings, along with Eastern Kentucky and will open the 2008 regular season at Central Michigan in the first of two games against BCS opponents in 2008.

The Pirates return seven starters on each side of the ball, including red-shirt junior quarterback Bodie Reeder and starting senior running backs Travorus Bess and Trent Steckel. The Pirates could have trouble up front as they return just three starting offensive linemen from a year ago.

Eastern Illinois also returns its entire starting defensive secondary, but just one starting linebacker in Jack Kosinski and two defensive linemen in seniors, Jeff Sobol and Pierre Walters.

The Pirates will face a Central Michigan Chippewas team that is attempting to pull off an exceptional three-peat as MAC conference champions.

While the Chippewas won’t have much trouble scoring the ball with all of their key offensive players returning, including MAC Offensive Player of the Year, QB Dan LeFevour the team could have big problems with its porous defense.

While LeFevour became one of only two players in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season last year, whuile leading the team to a whopping 34.8 points per game, the Chippewas lost some key players on defense, particularly at linebacker.

After allowing 36.9 points per game defensively, improvement on the defensive side of the ball is a must, that may not happen in 2008 after the team lost three solid starters from the middle of the defense, including two of their three starting linebackers with only sophomore MLB Nick Bellore returning with any significant experience. The returns of defensive backs Josh Gordy and a healthy Chaz West should help shore up the team’s secondary which allowed a whopping 303.5 yards passing per game last season.

LeFevour will hook up early and often with exciting wideout, Antonio Brown who set a MAC freshman record last season with 2,267 all-purpose yards and set a school record with 102 receptions as well as junior wide receiver Bryan Anderson who had 1,132 receiving yards in 2007.
