Get Free & Paid Picks for the NCAA Matchup Between Tennessee & UCLA Here at Cybersportsblog.com >>

An uncertain quarterback situation has made the UCLA Bruins 7.5-point home dogs to the Tennessee Volunteers on college football’s version of Monday Night Football.

This game is being broadcast at 8 pm on ESPN and a whopping 88% of the early bettors favor the Vols. Remember to make Sportsbook.com your home for college football this season. You’ll find the greatest array of game and future odds, all released the earliest in the industry.

UCLA’s starting quarterback for Monday night is junior college transfer Kevin Craft, and if you haven’t heard of him, don’t be ashamed. Craft was the team’s third option and is only starting because Patrick Cowan suffered a season-ending knee injury and Ben Olson is still out with a foot problem.

That’s not how Coach Rick Neuheisel drew it up on the blackboard when he was hired in December. Neuheisel played quarterback at UCLA and is a former head coach at Colorado and Washington. He also hired an elite offensive coordinator in Norm Chow, who held the same position for USC and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

Craft is trying to make the jump after playing last season for Mt. San Antonio College, and he has struggled more than his share in practice. It doesn’t help matters that the offensive line is suspect and playmakers at the skill positions are mostly unproven. The defense is ahead of the offense at this point, but they have their hands full with Tennessee.

The Vols, out of the SEC, are ranked 18th in the country after going 10-4 last year and 6-2 in the conference. This is the second year in a row they have opened up against a Pac-10 school after suffering a 45-31 defeat at Cal last season as seven-point underdogs.

You can be sure that Coach Phillip Fulmer is hammering away at his team all week about that game to motivate them against UCLA.

The big change to Tennessee this year comes on offense with a new offensive coordinator in Dave Clawson and redshirt junior quarterback Jonathan Crompton taking over for Erik Ainge. Crompton did have two starts against LSU and Arkansas in 2006 and he’s expected to excel in Clawson’s more high powered offense.

Crompton is also aided by the fact the Vols have two talented running backs in Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty. That means they’ll be plenty of play-action passes to a deep receiving corps. The Vols did lose linebacker Jerod Mayo and they have questions on run defense, but the UCLA offensive line doesn’t look good enough to capitalize.

One down note for Tennessee is that starting defensive back Brett Vinson and defensive tackle Donald Langley were suspended for this game due to academic issues.
One betting trend for this game is that UCLA is 20-7 ATS in their last 27 home games, including 5-1 last year. Will that number hold up against a very talented Tennessee team?

NCAAF Week One – Appalachian State at LSU

Saturday, August 30

BetUS Sportsbook customers will be in for a special treat if they are able to catch the season lid-lifter in Baton Rouge, taking place between last year’s national champions, as the LSU Tigers (12-2 SU, 5-7-2 ATS in 2007) play host to the Mountaineers of Appalachian State (13-2 in 2007). The game is set for Saturday, August 30 at Tiger Stadium (natural turf).

BetUS NCAA Football Betting Odds: LSU -23

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* LSU has won 19 of its last 21 games SU

* LSU is 2-7-2 ATS in its last 11 games

* LSU has played eight of its last nine games OVER the total

* LSU has covered two of its last seven home games

The intrigue here lies in the fact that both of these teams won national titles last season. LSU, of course, glided to a 38-24 Sugar Bowl win over Ohio State to win the BCS championship in Division 1-A ball. Appalachian State won the FCS (formerly Division 1-AA) title for the third straight year under coach Jerry Moore, after pulling off one of the more storied upsets in history in the season opener.

When they traveled to Ann Arbor last September 1 to face the Michigan Wolverines, the Mountaineers, despite their small-college superiority, were little more than an afterthought, considering Michigan was being touted as a possible national title contender. But they were in for the shock of their lives. AppState took a two-touchdown lead in the second quarter, then survived a furious comeback which saw Michigan go ahead with 4:36 left. They drive down the field for the winning field goal with 26 seconds left, and blocked a Michigan field goal attempt as time ran out.

What kind of spoiled it for ASU was a couple of regular season losses to Wofford and Georgia Southern. Otherwise they may have ended the season ranked in both major polls, which would have been an unprecedented feat for an FCS team. As it was, they went on to win the FCS tournament. Appalachian State captured its last two games by 20 points or more, including a 49-21 romp over Delaware in the title match.

LSU lost some great leaders on both sides of the ball. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, linebacker Ali Highsmith, safety Craig Steltz, wide receiver Early Doucet and fullback Jacob Hester are all ticketed for the NFL. And quarterback Matt Flynn graduated. The Tigers would have been set at quarterback, except for the fact that junior Ryan Perrilloux, the former USA Today high school offensive player of the year who was the MVP of the SEC title game, was kicked off the team. That leaves a huge hole at QB, and something Coach Les Miles has had to adjust to on the run. Jerrett Lee or Harvard transfer Andrew Hatch will be at the controls.

Appalachian State may be in better shape than LSU at the quarterback position. The Mountaineers are led on the field by the fantastic Armanti Edwards, who was 17-23 with three TD’s in the Michigan game and threw for 17 TD’s with seven picks on the season. However, ASU’s biggest personnel loss may have been even more devastating than LSU’s departures, since they don’t have the depth in talent the Tigers possess. Running back Kevin Richardson gained over 6000 combined rushing-receiving yards in his four years at AppState, and replacing this do-everything offensive threat will not be easy.

Miles can look forward to 12 starters returning for his tam – seven on offense and five on defense. With the kind of talent he still as, which includes up to a dozen all-conference performers, his team will again be in the national title mix if a couple of bounces go its way. Perhaps the most important consideration here is that nobody is going to be sneaking up on anybody. After their win at Ann Arbor, the chances are virtually nil that anyone will be taking ASU lightly, and so with LSU focused, maybe they have a chance to make Appalachian State look more like the team that has put together a 7-36-1 record against major college teams in the last 30 years (six of those wins over Wake Forest) and less like the team who was the talk of the sports world for weeks last September.

We’ll take the LSU Tigers and lay the 23 points in the BetUS NCAA football future betting odds,

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* FAU has covered 10 of its last 15 games

* FAU has won four of its last five games SU

* FAU has played its last eight games OVER the total

* FAU has won and covered four of its last five road games

* FAU has lost 16 of its last 24 road games SU

* FAU has played its last five road games OVER the total

* TEX has won six of its last seven games SU

* TEX has played four of its last five games OVER the total

* TEX has covered four of its last six home games

* TEX has won 21 of its last 25 home games SU

* TEX has played four of its last six home games OVER the total

Texas, as usual, comes with a lot of talent. The Longhorns return four players from an offensive line that experienced some injury problems last year, and they have at least a couple of wide receivers back with extensive experience in starting games – including Quan Cosby, who caught 60 passes last season. the defense has to replace six starters, including three in the secondary. Thinning out the defensive backfield is a big concern, because of the fact that this team was only 109th in the country against the pass in 2007, giving up almost 278 yards a game.

The losses on offense are big. Limas Sweed was one of the nation’s best wide receivers, and a second-round draftee of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Running back Jamaal Charles, who had a furious finish en route to 1619 yards rushing, departed for the Kansas City Chiefs. Colt McCoy, once hailed as the top schoolboy quarterback in the country, raised some doubts with an 18-interception season (to go along with 22 TD passes).

The Longhorns have had a hard time proving that they can rush the passer. And that could be trouble against Florida Atlantic’s Rusty Smith, a junior who threw for 32 touchdowns with only nine pickoffs last season in being named the Sun Belt Player of the Year. How many people thought he might be thought of as a better pro prospect than McCoy?

Smith joins eight other starters on the offensive unit, including four down linemen, who contributed to this team giving up less sacks than all but a dozen Division I squads. Frantz Joseph, who recorded 64 solo tackles, has a chance to demonstrate that he is in the upper strata of the nation’s outside linebackers, though admittedly he is going to have to get some improvement from his defensive mates, who gave up over 33 points a game last year – including 46 per game to the five out-of-conference opponents on its regular season schedule.

FAU’s program, however, believes it can make a move, and that would be consistent with the history of Howard Schnellenberger, who has brought two previous schools – Miami and Louisville – from nowhere to a level of national prominence. His team posted a +18 turnover margin last year, beat Memphis by 17 points in the New Orleans Bowl, returns a lot of talent, and has an opportunity to catch a team with a mistake-prone quarterback by surprise. This is precisely the kind of situation Schnellenberger has craved, and excelled at, in the past. And it’s enough for us to grab the points here with the Owls, the 23-point underdog in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
