The San Diego Chargers visit the San Francisco 49ers in the final week of the NFL preseason schedule on Friday night (10 pm ET, CBS). The teams have split the past four meetings but San Diego has a 3-1 ATS advantage over that span. They last squared off on Oct. 15, 2006, when the Chargers bombed the 49ers 48-19, easily covering the 10-point road spread.

NFL Week One Betting Preview Extravaganza!

Stay Away From Short-Priced Favorites in the AFC

The AFC Conference is loaded with good teams once again. It’s going to take some serious sports handicapping by NFL betting fans to find the key teams in the 2008 – 2009 NFL Season.

There are a few things that we learned during the NFL Pre-season, though, that could help yield huge profits when looking to make online wagers on AFC teams. The obvious thing I noticed is that the New England Patriots’ offense shouldn’t be nearly as surprising as it was last year.

Yes, it’s definitely going to put up points, but I don’t expect the Patriot’s to continually score between 35 and 50 like they did last season. AFC defenses have had an entire year to plan for that Patriots’ semi-spread offensive attack. Look for the AFC East, in particular the New York Jets, to give the Patriots a good run.

I’m definitely in the minority when it comes to my opinion regarding the Patriots, of course, so don’t hang me if I’m wrong. The + 300 on the Patriots to win the Super Bowl are terrible online football odds.

Speaking of the Jets, Brett Favre insists that he wants to play for at least one series in the teams’ final NFL Pre-season game. If I’m Eric Mangini, I take Brett aside and so, “No way!” Number 4 has been as impressive as any player during this NFL Pre-season. He came to the Jets after training camp started and hit the ground running. The guy is a football player. Mangini is a player’s coach. I expect big things from the Jets.

NFL Preseason Action with San Fran at Chicago

The third week of the NFL pre-season kicks off tonight when the (1-1) San Francisco 49ers invade the “Windy City” to take on the (0-2) Chicago Bears in a Week 3 NFL pre-season football betting clash; kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 ET.

This game will mark San Francisco’s first road game of the season, while the Bears get to play their second and final pre-season home game at Soldier Field.
