| TO keeping mouth shut
ahead of niners game |
| |
 |
Have
you noticed who’s not talking this week?
TO must be gearing
up to go against his former a team, the 49’ers.
Who will ever forget how badly he wanted out
of Frisco and how sick of Jeff Garcia TO was?
Don’t tell me this isn’t TO’s
personal Super Bowl. Is it coincidental that
Niner linebacker Derek Smith crushed TO this
week, saying he was a bad teammate, didn’t
want to practice and the Niners were better
off without him? Smack is flying and still nothing
from TO. The guy hasn’t said jack about
this game and you know it’s killing him. |
Just wait until he scores Sunday;
you know the guy is going to have something crazy
for the Niners. If Donovan McNabb, Koy Detmer or whoever
plays QB can’t get him the ball, he’ll
just intercept the snap. There’s no way, TO
doesn’t score on the Niners and then pile on.
No way. You can expect the craziest endzone celebration
yet.

Waiver Wire Pickups |
| |
Anthony
Wright - Boller is out for next week and
Anthony Wright has a much livelier arm. Remember that
game versus the Seahawks 2 years ago???? They seem
to let this kid just wing it all over the place. If
he gets in there and has a couple of big games...who
knows. He's got Mason/Moore/Heap to throw to, so the
weapons are there.
Drew Bledsoe - If you're really
hurting at QB or need a bye week filler, Drew won't
be bad. Julius Jones keeps defenses honest and Drew
has a group of serviceable WR's. You could do much
worse. Like being stuck with Ramsey or Boller.
Willie Parker - Willie Parker, Willie
Parker, Willie Parker, if you did not draft this kid,
get him yesterday ok? If for some odd reason he's
still on your wire, do whatever you have to and add
him to your roster.
Robert Ferguson - Javon Walker is
gone for the year with a torn ACL so Ferguson is now
the #2 WR. Green Bay's offense looks pretty pathetic
if they can't even light up D-town, so this year Favre
could be the gun slinger we remember
Marcus Pollard - He was undrafted
in one of my 8 team leagues, so I"m throwing
him up here. Harrington is going to lean on Pollard
all year long in the red zone and that makes sense.
Alex Smith - I grabbed him last
night, I suggest you look to do the same today. He's
the red zone option for Griese now in Tampa. 2 touchdowns
in his first NFL game.

| New-look NHL has new
rules |
| |
| The National
Hockey League approved a series of rule changes
Friday that will emphasize entertainment, skill
and competition on the ice. Commissioner Gary
Bettman also formally announced the creation of
a Competition Committee, which formulated and
recommended the proposed rules changes. |
|
No more ties
Following a scoreless
five-minute overtime, three players from each team participate
in a shootout. Two-line
passes
Two-line passes will now be legal. The centre-red
line will be ignored for off-side purposes.
Restrictions on goalies
The dimensions of goaltender equipment will be reduced
by approximately 11 per cent. In addition to a one-inch
reduction (to 11 inches) in the width of legpads,
the blocking glove, upper-body protector, pants and
jersey also will be reduced in size.
Bigger Offensive Zone
The blue-lines will be moved closer together to create
an additional four feet in each of the offensive zones.
That reduces the size of the neutral zone to 50 feet
from 54 feet.
Changes to icing
A team that ices the puck cannot make a line change
prior to the ensuing face-off.
Unsportsmanlike conduct
The league will review and assess fines to players
who dive, embellish a fall or a reaction, or who feign
injury in an attempt to draw penalties.

| Nine players fined
for Monday night fiasco |
| |
Nine players were
fined for their roles in a fight before Monday night's
game between the Eagles and Falcons, with Atlanta
defensive tackle Chad Lavalais drawing the biggest
fine, $7,500 US for a hit on Donovan McNabb during
the game. For the pre-game fight, which resulted in
Falcons cornerback Kevin Mathis and Eagles linebacker
Jeremiah Trotter being ejected before kickoff, both
players got $5,000 fines. Also receiving a $5,000
hit was cornerback DeAngelo Hall for unsportsmanlike
conduct for grabbing an opponent's facemask and then
throwing the opponent's helmet.
Trotter later lashed out, Trotter said the NFL should
discipline the referees who tossed him out of the
game.
''They should have fined the referee,'' he said.
''That's who they should have fined for that bad call.
I do think referees should get fined, too, for making
a bad call. There should be some disciplinary actions
for the refs.''
