I'm sorry but after watching the
weekend highlights from the bordeom that is nascar I
just have to say. "You think Hockey sucks? Try
to watch Nascar for a few minutes. Its now starting
to resemble bumper cars. There's a cliche that goes
something like this. "I went to see a bunch of
rednecks throw helmuts at each other, and a car race
broke out".
Ryan Newman bumped his way past
Tony Stewart to take a chippy first chapter in the chase
for the championship. Newman slipped inside Stewart
with two laps to go Sunday and held on to win the heated
NASCAR Sylvania 300, the opening race in the "Chase
for the Nextel Cup." It was the 12th career win
and first this season for Newman. NASCAR spokesman Jim
Hunter said after the race that penalties against several
drivers involved in incidents Sunday would be announced
by Tuesday, at the latest.
''We're going to do whatever we
need to do, whether it's to park a guy for a week or
park a guy for nine weeks,'' Hunter said. ''We're going
to do whatever we need to do to prevent retaliation
on the racetrack, particularly under the caution (flag),
because under the caution they're endangering other
people. What you need to do Jim is tell them not to
bring their attitudes to the track with them. This sport
just cracks me up. Give me Formula 1 and Indy any day.
