Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and New York Yankees first
baseman Jason Giambi were named the recipients of the
2005 Major League Baseball Comeback Player of the Year
Award, the league announced Thursday. Griffey
received 101,264 votes on MLB.com to win the National
League's honor. The oft-injured center fielder batted
.301 with 35 home runs - his most in five years - and
92 RBI in 128 games.
Giambi garnered 100,037 votes to
receive the American League's award. He had 32 homers
and 87 RBI while leading the league with 108 walks and
a .440 on-base percentage after overcoming injuries,
an intestinal parasite and steroid allegations.
