USC Loses Offensive Coordinator to the NFL |
| |
| Southern
California assistant Norm Chow was hired as offensive
co-ordinator of the Tennessee Titans
on Wednesday after helping the Trojans win two consecutive
national championships.
He was to be introduced at a
morning news conference, Titans spokesman Robbie Bohren
told The Associated Press.
Chow replaces Mike Heimerdinger,
who was hired as the New York Jets' offensive co-ordinator
last month. This is his first job in pro football after
32 seasons at BYU, North Carolina State and USC.
"I'm fired up - it's an
exciting opportunity to get into the highest level of
football," Chow told the Los Angeles Times. "But
my family is very, very sad to leave USC because it's
been such a great run."
Tennessee coach
Jeff Fisher, a USC alumnus, also interviewed assistant
head coach George Henshaw and quarterbacks coach Craig
Johnson from his own staff.
Chow, 58, joined USC in 2001
and was the team's offensive co-ordinator, tutoring
Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
|

At BYU, Chow worked with quarterbacks
such as Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, NFL star
Steve Young and Chicago Bears QB Jim McMahon - a former
teammate of Fisher's.

Basketball: Notre Dame Upsets Boston College |
| |

Jared Dudley racked up 16 points,
11 rebounds and six assists for Boston College (20-1,
9-1), which outrebounded the smaller Irish 38-30 but
made just 40 percent of its field goal attempts. Louis
Hinnant finished with 13 points in the loss, while Jermaine
Watson netted 11 off the bench.

Colin
Falls tied a career-high with 23 points while Chris
Thomas scored 19 and dished out nine assists as Notre
Dame ended previously-unbeaten Boston College's 20-game
win streak with a 68-65 victory at the Joyce Center.
Falls sank a personal-best seven
three-pointers and the Irish shot 11-of-20 from long
distance to hand the Eagles their first defeat after
25 straight regular-season triumphs dating back to last
season. Thomas' backcourt mate, Chris Quinn, added 10
points and six assists for Notre Dame (14-6, 6-4 Big
East), which had lost three of four coming in.

Wynn's Casino To Detect Fake Chips?? Are You Kiddin me?? |
| |
| Casino
mogul Steve Wynn has pulled out all
the stops for his new $2.7 billion mega-resort in Las
Vegas: an 18-hole championship golf course, a private
lake and mountain, and a bronze tower housing 2,700
plush guest rooms. But when its doors open in April,
the Wynn Las Vegas will have one unique feature that
few visitors are likely to notice--high-tech betting
chips designed to deter counterfeiting, card-counting
and other bad behavior.
The fancy new chips look just
like regular ones, only they contain radio devices that
signal secret serial numbers. Special equipment linked
to the casino's computer systems and placed throughout
the property will identify legitimate chips and detect
fakes, said Rick Doptis, vice president of table games
for the Wynn

| Best Matchup
- NCAA Hoops Season |
|
| On
Wednesday night, we'll see the renewal of the greatest
rivalry in college sports (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET). I know
some will cry out about Michigan-Ohio State in football.
There are so many great rivalries, but in basketball
no rivalry matches North Carolina vs. Duke.
Just consider
the intensity and emotion involved when these two ACC
powers hook up. There is nothing like it, since these
schools are separated by just eight miles. There is
so much passion invested in these two programs, and
when they meet everyone goes bananas. Cameron Indoor
Stadium will be rocking and rolling when North Carolina
visits Wednesday.
Defensively,
Duke leads the ACC in scoring defense (63.8 points a
game) and blocked shots (7.5 a game).
No team has shot over 50 percent against them, and in
11 of the 19 games, the opponent shot 40 percent or
less.
Redick averaged 29.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and four assists
in two games last week.
Williams is averaging 18.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and
four blocks in his last seven games. Ewing averages
four assists and 2.1 steals a game.

Guard
Rashad McCants leads a balanced North Carolina attack
in scoring (16.1 ppg).
I can't wait to get into the building to broadcast this
special event. Duke's Hall of Fame coach, Mike Krzyzewski,
vs. Carolina's Roy Williams, a sure-fire future member
of the shrine in Springfield, Mass. ... it should be
truly magical, baby! |

Latest NHL Update |
|
Not only did the NHL make a new proposal to the NHL
Players' Association today, it has already been rejected.
Both sides met Wednesday in Toronto, and TSN has learned
the league offered to use the NHLPA's Dec. 9 proposal
until such time it became clear it wasn't working. If
that happens, they would switch to the NHL's Feb. 2
proposal. Commissioner Gary Bettman has called a news
conference at 6:30pm et to discuss the talks.
Almost 40 per cent of the NHL's
Canadian fan base said they don't miss the pro game,
according to a new poll that spells further trouble
for warring National Hockey League partners.
The national survey suggests
that five months into a labour lockout that has darkened
NHL rinks since September, "opinion seems to be
drifting towards indifference," Decima CEO Bruce
Anderson said Wednesday.

WPT: LA Poker Classic 2005 -
Feb 19th
Commerce Casino, Los Angeles CA |
As we all clamor to the virtual poker rooms to lose
our money to 9 5 suited, special interest groups clamor
to the doors of congress men and women demanding that
online gambling in the states be made illegal. Currently,
the Department of Justice would tell you that it is
covered by the Wire Act and is in fact illegal, regardless
of the location of the company with which you are placing
your bets. However, the issue is still unclear, and
some movement by Congress suggests clarifying the situation.
That means all of us are possibly facing a prohibition
on our favorite pastime. Read all about Gambling
Prohibition here.

Timberfake
not great with the cards
Last
week Justin Timberlake celebrated his 24th birthday
with a poker themed party. Cameron Diaz, Tobey Maguire,
and Leo Dicaprio were just a few celebrities to attend
and help celebrate Justin's big day. When asked how
J.T. did at the poker tables, one source said, "He's
not that good." I guess you can't be good at
everything.

| Moan
Phone??? - Jenna Jameson |
 Porn
star, Jenna Jameson, has partnered up with Wicked Wireless
to provide new sounds for your cell phone. Forget about
making your phone ring, chirp, sing, or vibrate when
it can moan to you. Jameson explains that these sexy
sighs and moans are a "universal language"
around the world and, now, with our own personal touch.
Colored pictures of Jenna posing naked are also available
and can be displayed on your phone. These "moantones"
are currently available in Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela,
and in a couple of weeks will be available from Mexico
to Uruguay for $1.00 for a moan or picture. |
Residents of the U.S. will be offered Jenna's "moans"
on a limited basis in late 2005 at $2.50 a moan and
$2.99 a picture. At this time, none of the larger mobile
carriers have expressed interest in carrying the service.

| San
Fran Gets The All Star Game |
San Francisco's
SBC Park has been chosen to host the 2007 Major League
Baseball All-Star Game.

Because
the Giants were chosen to host the game, 2007 will
mark the end of an era in which the mid-summer classic
has switched each season between the American and
National League ball parks. This year's All-Star Game
will take place July 12 at Detroit's Comerica Park,
but the NL will host the game the following two years
with the 2006 contest at Pittsburgh's PNC Park.
|
It
will mark the first time in more than 40 years that
one league served host to the All Star game in consecutive
seasons.
"Once I had
selected Detroit and then Pittsburgh, San Francisco
became such an obvious choice," commissioner Bud
Selig said. "Frankly, it would have been a crime
to go anywhere else. They deserved it. I'm not going
to worry about rotating it, but we'll try to do it as
much as possible."
