The Philadelphia Eagles became the second
NFL team to retire the uniform No. 92 of
Reggie White, as they did it Monday night
at Lincoln Financial Field, prior to a 42-0
loss to Seattle. Several ex-Eagles were
on hand, including former head coach Buddy
Ryan, players Eric Allen, Keith Byars, Randall
Cunningham, Keith Jackson, Seth Joyner,
Clyde Simmons, Andre Waters, and Roynell
Young. White passed away last December at
the age of 43. White's daughter, Jecolia,
sang the national anthem before Monday's
game. The Eagles unfurled a banner at halftime
depicting White next to the No. 99 of former
teammate Jerome Brown, who died in a car
accident.
White played 15 seasons with Philadelphia,
Green Bay and Carolina. The first eight
years were spent with the Eagles. The Packers
retired White's number at halftime of their
game against the Cleveland Browns on September
18. At the time of his retirement, White
was the NFL's
all-time sacks leader with 198. He has
since been surpassed by Bruce Smith who
has 200. White suffered a fatal cardiac
arrhythmia caused by sarcoidosis, which
he had lived with for years.
