Hitting the ice in the middle of August six months before the Olympics may not seem like a critical juncture in Team Canada's preparation for defending its gold medal. The Coyotes' new head coach is back to GM mode this week at the Canada Olympic camp.

But think again. This week's five-day camp, which kicked off with a practice Monday night at GM Place, is crucial to Canada's chances of repeating Olympic glory. Reier said the case will be presented to the city attorney's office for possible misdemeanour charges. According to police reports, the 335-pound Siavii charged officers, but was sprayed with a chemical irritant and arrested. The incident happened in the lobby of the Graves 601 Hotel.

The Chiefs have a training camp in River Falls, Wis. They lost to the Minnesota Vikings 27-16 Friday at the Metrodome. Siavii played 12 games as a rookie for the Chiefs last season. He had 12 tackles, a sack and three quarterback pressures. Wesley, a 206-pound safety, has been a starter in the Chiefs' secondary for nearly all of his five-year career. He has 20 career interceptions.

Sams was pulled over shortly after 2 a.m. on Interstate 83 in Baltimore County, just north of the Baltimore city line, after his Chevrolet Tahoe was clocked going 143 km/h in an 89 zone, Maryland State Police said.

The trooper who made the stop saw signs that Sams had been drinking. After further investigation, Sams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, negligent driving and speeding.

A female companion, who had not been drinking, drove Sams to a nearby state police barracks for processing, and Sams was released around 4 a.m. He was polite and co-operative, police said.
