#1 Jimmie
Johnson
JJ would have won the race last Sunday if it had
been 100 miles longer, but he still finished third.
Johnson's grip on the top spot is officially tightening.
#2 Greg Biffle
If a Roush driver is going to win the championship
this season -- and Roush has won the last two with
Matt Kenseth (2004) and Kurt Bush (2004) -- it'll
likely be Biffle. On Sunday, he dominated the field
to win his second race of the season.
#3 Jeff Gordon
Gordon was quiet in Texas, where he's never won in
nine starts. He finished 15th, but did move up to
fifth in the points standings. Expect his points ascent
in the to continue.
#4 Kurt Busch
After taking a hard lick during the IROC race last
Friday, Busch was so sore he didn't know if he'd be
able to finish the Cup race. But he gutted out a seventh-place
finish. Impressive. Very impressive.
#5 Rusty Wallace
Wallace drove his hot rod, as he calls his race
car, to a 10th-place finish in Texas. In seven races
this season, Wallace has collected four Top 10s. It's
looking more and more like he'll be in title hunt
deep into autumn.
