12th Man Trademark Lawsuit

A&M, Seahawks settle 12th man flap

12th man

The dispute between Texas A&M and the Seattle Seahawks over the use of the 12th Man trademark appears to be over.

The two sides reached a settlement on Monday, 10 days before they were due to meet in a Houston district court.

Neither side admits fault in the settlement. But in the agreement, Texas A&M will allow the Seahawks to continue using the phrase "12th Man" provided the NFL franchise acknowledges that the copyright on the slogan belongs to the school. The dispute had been simmering for years, but things hit a boiling point earlier this year when A&M sought a restraining order to block the use of the 12th Man or any variation of the slogan by the Seahawks during the week before the Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Detroit.

The one thing I'm having a hard time understanding is how the Hawks were able to come to an agreement with A+M. After all they are in Texas, was it possible for the Hawks lawyers to grab a holster and chaps for court appearances on such short notice?
